Which sociology class was that? :P Unbelievable that an English writing class should be used as a forum for such anti-intellectual ravings! Or maybe it's too believable. :(

What do they teach in these schools?

<a href="#comment-48" rel="nofollow">@Ruth Hartog</a>
Don’t get me wrong, as I do believe there is something profoundly beautiful about someone who can keep a child-like faith in Christ. However, the problem with totally blind faith is that lots of people have blind (or partially blind) faith in things that aren’t worth putting faith into. To borrow from Richard Dawkins a bit, I can have as much faith as I want to in the flying spaghetti monster, but since there’s no valid reason to believe in it, my faith is useless. Christianity, on the other hand, gives us enough plenty of rational reason to believe its doctrines, yet few people really realize this. Its for that reason I do a lot of reading and writing about it =)

;-) Thanks Jeremy for writing! That was interesting! I've never heard of or seen that movie but you're right! We need to understand our faith and wrestle with it/and the God standing behind it, till we can stand and know where we are at. Ignorance is not the way!

It's human nature to lump everyone into well defined groups except yourself. :) I've often thought about getting a bumper sticker that says something like "I'm gay, pro-life, conservative and knee-jerk green and I vote!" just to confuse the crap out of everyone.

<a href="#comment-60" rel="nofollow">@Elizabeth N</a>
As do I, El. I realize there are extreme wrongs on both sides of the field here, and some people will be bigots no matter what. I despise people who use Christianity as some sort of weapon, as that was never its purpose. What really has me frustrated is that my teacher assumes all Christians are like the ones he thinks of, which isn't true. Any attempt to explain otherwise is blown off as me just being naive, as you can see in my essay. I'm fine if he wants to disagree with me, but to shove ideas down my throat and be such a hypocrite is just unreal. I really cannot believe some of the stuff that has come out of this guy's mouth.

Hold out for real philosophy, Jeremy, where it's everyone's job to look at all sides. I know plenty of Christians who are bigoted and closed-minded as well as knee-jerk liberals like this asswipe, both giving themselves a bad name. Fortunately I know more people who are truly open minded and respectful. I love that you're happy in your Christianity & marriage (hi Teri!) and that you accept me for my gay lifestyle without judgment. Screw anyone who says we're not both on the right paths for ourselves. Let's party!!

Arizona State was quite liberal at the time I attended, but from what I read, universities in general are even more so. I graduated in 1994, just for a point of reference. I also attended two community colleges, which were not bad. In fact, my astronomy teacher stated that any serious astronomer has to acknowledge the fact that there is a supreme being who created the universe. I majored in English, and some of my professors were quite good, but I did have some who were liberal and thought themselves the epitome of intellect.

Wow. Your teacher (and the staff for allowing him to teach there) truly disgust me. You're always hearing about these minority groups begging for acceptance but we as Christians are now the minority & we get treated like dirt. Accountability means nothing anymore. I mean, just look at this economic stimulus bill.

On the news the other day, they showed two people would be benefiting from this. The first person was a lady with a bad knee. Does a bad knee put your life in danger? Does it keep you from working at a sit-down job? NO.

The other person was this guy who just lost his job. He has a wife (who I'm supposing is also out of work) & a couple of kids. They showed the inside of this family's house & these people had expensive toys everywhere! I literally mean it when I say that there were things against every wall & even scattered around the floor. Have these people tried selling their stuff to pay their living before taking hard-working tax payer's dollars? NO.

Seriously, not accountability. And that is why they hate Christians because we strongly believe that we should be accountable for our actions. We have morals & actually care about & love other people. You're absolutely right when you say that these people are selfish & that is why the institute of marriage is looking bad. This is the exact reason why gay marriage should be banned b/c why should it have to look even worse? If people like your teacher don't believe in the sanctity of marriage then don't get married & give it back to us that take it seriously.
